Chat Piles – Flat River, Missouri

Lead mining waste was deposited in huge “chat” piles in Flat River, Missouri, USA. My siblings and I used to play in the “sand,” when visiting the family in the area, which probably wasn’t a healthy thing to do. My great-grandfather, John McCreary Jarrell, was a driller in the lead mines, before moving to Detroit, Michigan, USA to work in the auto factories. #falknerjarrell #jarrellgenealogy #jarrell #missouri #deslogemissouri #desloge #leadmine #missourihistory #familyhistory #genealogy #oldphotos #mininghistory #leadmining #industrialphotography #mining #postcard #rppc #miner #mines #flatrivermo #miningcompany #postcard #postcards #rppc #sandbox #sandpile #chat #chatdump #chatpile
