John William Blumenstiel (1883-1976), my maternal great-grandfather. Born in 1883 in Reichensachsen, Hessen, his family immigrated to Freeport, Illinois, USA in 1885. He lived until 1976 (92 years), so I was fortunate to know him. He was one of my childhood heroes.
