Christina Vaupel Blumenstiel (1855-1888), my great-great grandmother. This is a mourning pin worn by my great-grandfather, John William Blumenstiel, in honor of his deceased mother. She was born in Reichensachsen, Hessen, Germany and married Adolph Wilhelm Blumenstiel in 1873. In 1885, the family migrated to Freeport, Illinois, USA, where her brother and sister, John and Martha Vaupel, had migrated previously.
